Pet Paintings

It all started when we lost our sweet Piccino on November 17, 2015. It was truly one of the hardest goodbyes that I have ever had to say. Piccino is my heart. He is such a big part of my life and he's responsible for some of my most happiest memories..

 Piccino came into my life in Las Vegas when he was just a few months old. He instantly stole my heart and we spent 17 years sharing wonderful times together. Piccino touched the hearts of those he met, was loved by many, and  had multiple nicknames given to him by those who loved him. He loved to snuggle under blankets. He loved to dress up. He loved having his picture taken.  Piccino was truly one of a kind. 

Piccino was also very social and  went everywhere with me! He especially loved living in NYC and he became an instant friend to everyone he met. He enjoyed  walking in the city, traveling on  buses and trains and spending quality time with friends. Piccino had the sweetest soul and a friendly personality that had the capability of turning ordinary people into instant animal lovers.

I will never forget the day I created this painting of Piccino. I woke up on a Sunday morning still grieving the loss of our sweet boy and I decided to paint to get my mind off things. I had no intention of painting anything in particular and I especially didn't plan on painting Piccino. In fact, I decided to just randomly paint on a canvas that I had already started  painting on several months prior. As I began painting, something came over me. I was completely redirected and decided to paint one of my favorite photos of Piccino. To this day, I still don't know what made me start painting him. I started the painting in the  morning with no direct plan and I finished it by late afternoon. I recall being very focused on the details of Piccino's eyes, nose, ears and the size of his head compared to his body. It was as if I had entered a loving and creative state of mind that was closed off to the world around me. I also remember the feeling of peace come over me as I stared at my finished painting. I could actually feel Piccino's heart, soul and personality as I looked at it. Creating this painting of Piccino was so healing for me. It brought a sense of calmness while I painted it and it brings my family and I great joy every time we look at it. It is like Piccino is right there in the room with us. It's the next best thing to actually having him here. This painting of Piccino has helped us through the grieving process and  it helps us keep his memory alive. I could have never imagined that creating this painting of Piccino would personally impact my life in so many ways and that it would also inspire me to use my talents to help others.

We were beyond grateful for the compassion, kindness and support that we received from our vet, so I decided to send her a thank you card. As I was getting ready to run out to buy a card, an idea had come over me and I decided to make a custom card using a photo of my Piccino painting. I sent the card to our vet and within a few days, I had received a phone call from one of the vets in the office. She had asked how much I charge for my pet paintings. I told her that I didn't "charge" anything because I hadn't been selling them. In fact, I told her that Piccino was the first  pet painting I had ever done. She asked if she could order one and the rest is history. As of today, I have created over 30 pet paintings for people!
